Ascension Public Schools names 3 to leadership positions (2024)

Three new administrators have been hired by Ascension Public Schools.

Instructional supervisor data analyst Allison Brignac, Principal of Gonzales Primary Yvette Langlois, and Principal of Lake Elementary Michalyn Ourso were recently named to the positions.

“We are incredibly blessed in Ascension Parish to welcome three exceptional leaders to our school and district teams. Their outstanding instructional backgrounds and unwavering commitment to education will undoubtedly drive the success of our students and provide invaluable support to our teachers and staff. Together, they will help us continue to achieve excellence and foster a thriving learning environment for all," Superintendent Edith M. Walker said.

Brignac is a graduate of Bogalusa High School and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics education from Louisiana Tech University. She furthered her education by obtaining a master's degree in educational leadership from Southeastern Louisiana University. She is also a National Board Certified Teacher.

With a 25-year career in teaching, including 23 years dedicated to Ascension Parish, Brignac has made significant contributions to the educational community, a news release said. She worked at St. Amant High School, Donaldsonville High School and Lowery Middle School, where she also served as a mentor teacher.

In addition to her classroom experience, she has held various leadership roles, including teacher coach, master teacher, assistant principal of East Ascension High School, and principal of Lake Elementary.

She is married to Jay Brignac, and they have a daughter, Chloe.

“I am truly grateful for your support and confidence, which have empowered me to take on this new role in serving the district. I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the staff, students, and stakeholders at Lake Elementary. Their unwavering support has made it a remarkable place to work, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have been part of such a special community,” Brignac said.

Langlois brings 25 years of dedicated experience to her new role. She began her career in St. Bernard Parish as a special-education teacher, where she worked with students with significant disabilities.

In 2003, she moved to Ascension Parish, where she has served as a special-education teacher, special education coordinator, and assistant principal at Lakeside Primary.

She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southeastern Louisiana University.

She is married to Pete Langlois, and they are blessed with one son, Jacques, and two stepdaughters, Malorie and Macie.

"Thank you all for placing your confidence in me. I’ve had the privilege of learning and growing, and I eagerly anticipate working with the wonderful staff and team at Gonzales Primary. I look forward to partnering with parents and families to create an environment where students can thrive, succeed, and fulfill their dreams. I am truly excited for this opportunity,” said Langlois.

Lake Elementary principal

Ourso brings experience and dedication to her new role, the release said. Before stepping into this leadership position, she served most recently as assistant principal at Prairieville Primary and as an instructional coach at Prairieville Primary.

She also held the role of administrative intern at both Pecan Grove Primary and Prairieville Middle. Her teaching career includes significant contributions at Lake Elementary, Central Middle, and Dutchtown Middle schools.

She is a former student of Lake Elementary and a graduate of St. Amant High School. She continued her academic journey at LSU and earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from Southeastern Louisiana University.

She lives in St. Amant with her husband, Luke, and their three children: Owen, Ellyn and Amelia.

“I am incredibly excited to return to Lake Elementary, a place that feels like home to me since I was once a student there. I look forward to achieving great things for the students and staff and am eager to get started. While I know I have big shoes to fill, I couldn't be more thrilled to embark on this journey,” Ourso said.
